APRS is the Automatic Packet Reporting System developed in the late 1980's by Bob Bruninga, WB4APR. Bob's original website has the protocol information and current status.

I monitored the local frequency via my iGate for the 5 days up until the 6th April, 2012. Here is a map, and the Graphviz source file used to produce it, of connectivity between local nodes as seen here in the ACT.
